Featured Module: Empowered Living: Experiencing the Holy Spirit's Power in Our Daily Lives

Open Module

Teacher: Pastor Brent Harrell • Calvary Boise

Introduction

In our exploration today, I invite you to turn your attention to Acts chapter 3, where we will delve into the importance of living in the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit. As a pastor and disciple of Jesus, I have come to understand my profound need for God's strength and wisdom to navigate the challenges of life. Throughout this past year, I have often found myself crying out to God for help and guidance. If you find yourself in a similar state of weakness or uncertainty, I hope this message speaks to your heart. We will reflect on how God's power is essential not only for personal transformation but also for effective ministry within our families and communities.

Main Points

At The Core Of Our Faith

At the core of our faith is a call to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus clearly commanded His followers to be filled with the Spirit, emphasizing its necessity for effective witness and ministry.

  • In John 14:15-17, Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide believers into all truth.
  • However, this relationship with the Spirit is not merely passive; it requires intentionality and openness to the Spirit's leading.
  • In Acts 1:8, Jesus reminds His disciples that the Spirit's coming upon them will equip them with power to be witnesses across the earth.
  • Reflecting on this, I encourage you to examine your own life: are you actively seeking the Holy Spirit's empowerment, or are you relying solely on human effort?

Drawing From Paul S Experience In

Drawing from Paul's experience in Corinth, we discover that he approached his ministry not with learned eloquence but in the weakness that drove him to depend on the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:3-4). He acknowledged that relying on persuasive arguments alone could not transform hearts or lives.

  • This principle compels us to confront how often we lean on our abilities rather than on God's power.
  • The power of the Holy Spirit transcends human wisdom and is essential for exposing truth and fostering sincere change in our surroundings.
  • In Esther chapter 4, Mordecai's words to Esther highlight a crucial truth: we are placed in our positions for such a time as this, under God's sovereignty.
  • Just as Esther was positioned to influence the fate of her people, we too find ourselves uniquely situated to impact those around us.

Let This Thought Resonate As You

Let this thought resonate as you consider your role in your family, workplace, and community. God has positioned you strategically to be a vessel for His love and power, but it is essential that you lean on His strength rather than your own. I have seen through both major challenges and everyday interactions that faith plays a key role in experiencing God's power. Whether it’s praying for a friend in need or speaking words of encouragement, trusting God to act is vital. In my own experiences, such as praying for sick friends and witnessing their healing, I’ve seen firsthand how God uses willing vessels to reveal His glory. Each of us can be conduits of God's power when we allow Him to work through us in our tasks, big or small.

God Desires Us To Step Into

God desires us to step into faith-based actions, responding to His calling without hesitation. For us to truly experience the Holy Spirit's power, we must approach God with humility. James 4:6 reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. A humble heart acknowledges its dependence on God and seeks not only forgiveness but also empowerment. Reflect on areas in your life where you ideally respond in pride or self-sufficiency. By admitting our need for God's intervention, we can experience the fullness of His Spirit.

To Empower Ourselves Through The Holy

To empower ourselves through the Holy Spirit, I propose three actionable steps: first, humble yourself before God, confessing your need for His help. Second, ask in faith, believing that He who promises is faithful to fulfill. Finally, take action, step out of your comfort zone and let God lead you into situations where His power can be displayed. Engage in ministry initiatives, engage with your community, or simply speak a word of encouragement to someone in need. These steps are critical in aligning ourselves with God's work through the Holy Spirit. Living in a time when darkness seems rampant can lead us to feel overwhelmed and ineffective.

At Such Moments It Is Vital

At such moments, it is vital to remember that God is seeking to utilize our lives for His kingdom even amidst prevailing evil. Be encouraged that our struggles and uncertainties do not define our effectiveness; rather, it is the power of God at work through us that brings about change. Know that His power is available today just as it was with the early apostles. We can affirm this by continually seeking His face and asking for His fill.

Conclusion

In conclusion, embracing the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit is not just a theoretical concept, it is a vital reality in the life of every believer. As we reflect on Acts chapter 3 and the examples set before us in Scripture, let us acknowledge our need for divine empowerment. God desires to work in and through us for His glory, equipping us to face and transform our world. As we respond in humility, seek the Spirit, and act in faith, we will truly be the salt and light Christ calls us to be. Let us commit ourselves to living in the fullness of the power and presence of God, for such a time as this.
